Manufacturers recognize that certain types of lamps may require a special type of lamp kit in order to work properly. They take into consideration the shape of the base and materials being used when they create these special lamp-making kits. It is possible to find lamp kits for the following types of lamps--jug or canning jar lamps, bottle lamps, oil lamps, planter lamps, basket lamps, flower pot lamps and birdhouse lamps.

Floor bases usually come with the electrical attached. All you provide is the lamp shade. Reclaim or reuse an existing floor base and learn how to lengthen a lamp cord.

Each part in a lamp-making kit can be purchased and replaced separately. Any home improvement store, lamp store, craft or hardware store will have replacement parts. If possible bring the item, or a photo of the item, with you. This saves time and explanation when you are not familiar with lamp-making vocabulary.
